NYCHA’s designated Construction Manager, the LiRo Group, awarded Twin Peaks the contract to provide Special Inspections and Construction Materials Testing services; the contract was for NYCHA’s public housing in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Due to Superstorm Sandy, there has been extensive flood and wind damage.
The general scope of the project included the installation of new centralized boiler equipment and complete backup power generators in the new building above the FEMA flood level; reconstruction of playgrounds affected by the construction work; changing the roofing for 28 residential buildings; changing electrical conduits and plumbing pipes impaired by water in basement areas; designing a new boiler/standby generator plant building on Clinton St. and W. 9th St. to supply heat and power for Red Hook East and West; and much more.
Twin Peaks performed many inspections and tests. A short list includes the following: Concrete field, plant, and rebar; Masonry; High-Pressure Gas and Water/Steam Pipes, Bolting, and NDT testing; Asphalt Compaction; Soil Compaction; and MEP Systems, including Mechanical, Emergency Power (Generators), Smoke Control, Heating, and Sprinkler Systems.
